Eaglehawk Secondary College has recently developed a new school vision: “To develop aspirant, resilient learners who are empowered citizens.” Principal Dani Derksen said, “Eaglehawk Secondary College has a strong set of CORE values that underpin our philosophy of practice. These are our connection to Community, the Opportunities we enable our students to pursue, our strong focus on developing Relationships and supporting high Expectations and Achievement from everyone across our school.
It was our value of Expectations and Achievement that promoted the need to express how this was reflected in learning opportunities at our school and what that meant to students and staff. As a school we needed to articulate a clear vision that represented the learners we were privileged to develop during their time with us. We held staff workshops and student forums to consider how our CORE values reflected a learning culture at ESC and developed our Vision for Learning as a result.”

Speaking of global citizens here’s some news on an exESC kid making their mark on the global stage…
Ex ESC student Tyler Hendy is kicking goals in the international advertising world being recently named a rising star of the ad land. Tyler left ESC in 2008 after completing year 10 and went on to study at BSSC and La Trobe Uni in Bendigo. He now works at Wunderman UK, a marketing and advertising agency, as a senior designer. Online industry magazine ‘campaign’ recently named Tyler in their ‘School Reports 2019: Meet the star players’. He was listed among the visionaries, rising stars and superheroes of adland. The article stated that, “No matter the brief, he always pushes the boundaries to deliver best-in-class design.”
Tyler’s dream job (as noted in the 2008 annual ESC School Magazine) was Head of MySpace, which for those not old enough to remember was the social media platform we all used before Facebook and Instagram, so it seems he was always destined for greatness!
Above is a photo of Tyler today.

Anne is pictured (below) here with Annie, another Empowering Eaglehawk committee member, at one of the grant celebrations held regularly throughout the year where funds raised by Empowering Eaglehawk are given back to local community groups. Funds donated are inching ever closer to $1M! Stay tuned for more about this amazing effort.
